Layover Adventures: Discovering Hong Kong in 2026

—

Last November 2025, my family and I celebrated my nephew’s 7th birthday in Hong Kong. We had a great vacation and I believe that my nephews added this experience as one of their childhood’s core memory. 🥰🥰🥰 As for me, I knew that I will be coming back! 😁

I had a short stay in Hong Kong before and after my travel in Mongolia. Since there is no direct flight from Manila to Ulaanbaatar, the nearest possible destinations for me were either in Seoul, Tokyo or Hong Kong. I opted out Seoul as visa is required. While I did not chose Tokyo as I am saving it for another travel this year. 😁

Nevertheless, my perfect choice was Hong Kong as it was visa-free and I wanted to come back to Hong Kong Disneyland. 😍🥰😍

My flight to Hong Kong was booked in August 2025. So, I had a lot of time to prepare for my travel last June 2026. Plus, the airfare was cheaper! 😇 Who doesn’t love discounts? 😍🥰😍 I flew via Cebu Pacific Air from Manila.

I was lucky to experience the fastest airline counter to immigration counter in less than 30 minutes! 😱😱😱 I was really surprise that it did happened! If you are aware of the airport congestion in the Manila, this 30-minute timeframe was very fast, that includes all of the security checks too. What a convenience in time! 😍👍😍

After flying, I reached Hong Kong by past 8 in the evening. Since I was familiar in the process of immigration until luggage pick up, my arrival in Hong Kong became very easy. 😌

Before checking-in to my hotel, I had a time to withdraw cash – though the line was long as only one ATM functioned that time. I was able to top up my Octopus Card while I was in the airport. I used the same Octopus Card that I bought last November 2025. As checked, Octopus Card is still valid for 100 days from last transaction.

After all of the essentials including my take-out dinner from 7-11, I waited for some minutes for my hotel shuttle.

I had the same routine when I returned from Mongolia.

Where I did I stayed?

Since Hong Kong was my layover destination from and to Mongolia and Philippines, I chose to stay in two hotels near Hong Kong International Airport in Tung Chung. After my arrival on my first day in Hong Kong before heading on the next day to Mongolia, I stayed at Novotel Citygate. This is the same hotel where I and my family stayed last year.

I was very much familiar with Novotel Citygate so my check-in was very smooth. Since I have arrived in Hong Kong by past 8 in the evening and my flight to Ulaanbaatar will be early in the morning, my itinerary that day in Hong Kong was just to rest. 😴

And if you talk about resting, Novotel Citygate will let you relax entirely. 🥰🥰🥰 I had a Standard Queen Room for a night. It was almost the same amenities I had when I booked our Executive Room last year. My bed was very comfortable. 🥰🥰🥰

The rest room was very clean too. Same expectation, same quality in Novotel Citygate. ⭐ Plus, I super love the breakfast buffet. It was perfect before heading out. I truly had a great night in Novotel Citygate. ⭐

When I returned in Hong Kong from Ulaanbaatar, I chose to stay in FourPoints by Sheraton. I chose another hotel in Hong Kong to experience the difference . The hotel is also near Hong Kong International Airport. However, it was not completely nearby the Citygate Mall and Tung Chung MTR Station. For convenience, there were shuttle busses to and from the mall and MTR. In this aspect, I missed Novotel Citygate as you can plan your day without worrying about the time of free shuttle busses.

However, my stay in FourPoints by Sheraton was amazing too! 🥰🥰🥰 My room was very clean and comfortable. The view? Superb! 😍👍😍 I love a small glimpse of the port or water nearby. All of the amenities were excellent too. I rested very well after a long day outside. Their breakfast buffet were amazing too. The meals were classic choices yet tasty. Overall, I was pleased with my stay in FourPoints by Sheraton. ⭐

I was really blessed to experience two amazing hotels while I travel in Hong Kong. 🙏🙇‍♀️🙏

Itinerary in Hong Kong

My goals in Hong Kong this time was two only – experience Disneyland again and to visit Macao. I wanted to experience these two goals while I travel in Hong Kong again.

Last year, as we celebrated my nephew’s 7th birthday in Hong Kong Disneyland, it was too much crowded! Maybe because it was a Saturday. Though we enjoyed Disneyland, there were some rides that we were not able to experience as the queues were too long. We were not able to enjoy the Momentous as there was a tall Christmas tree that blocked the castle. Yet, I was still grateful that I brought my family in their first Disneyland experience. 🙏🙇‍♀️🙏

This year, my itinerary was a Thursday. I was very happy to experience lesser crowd. The Frozen Ever After queue last year that we endured for about 1.5 hours was just 5 minutes! Though I did not tried it this time, I was very lucky to enjoy Disneyland with fewer visitors. 🤩🤩🤩

We never had a chance to visit the Toy Story Land last year, so this time, I went through it. It was very timely as Disney was promoting Toy Story 5. My visit in HK DL this year was also the start of the summer celebration of Pixar. I had to visit Toy Story Land to support Taylor Swift in her promotion. 😁😂😁

I also had a chance to experience the Mystic Manor nearby the Toy Story Land. The queue was just in less than 10 minutes. I really enjoyed the magic of Mystic Manor! It was dazzling with surprises. 🤩🤩🤩

After the Mystic Manor, I availed the free snack in Toy Story Land. The free snack was included in my Disneyland ticket when I bought it via Klook. The snack turned out to be lunch on that day. 😋

While eating, my heart was full as I was again in the happiest place on Earth. 🥰🥰🥰 Though the weather was very humid, Disneyland Park was full of electric fans including the outdoor area.

One of things that I did not slipped this time was The Lion King Show! Same as last year, we did not had the chance to see it as the viewing time was out of our itinerary. But while watching the show, I regret that my family was not with me this time. 😞

The Lion King Show was amazing! 🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩

The kids and my siblings will definitely enjoy it! The cast, the props, the music, the lights, everything was magical! 🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩

It was very much thought through! The short storyline was dramatic yet entertaining! If ever I had the chance again to bring my family in Hong Kong, we will not miss this show. 🙏🙇‍♀️🙏 I know that the circle of life will turn again for us. 🙏🙇‍♀️🙏

As the queue in most of the attractions were short, I had the chance to ride the Winnie The Pooh twice! This attraction was closed last year. Thankfully, it was open again. I had an amazing time to see Pooh and his friends. 😍👍😍

After the first rides, I was starving! So, I headed to the Royal Banquet to have a snack. But it turned out, it was not really a snack as I ordered rice meal. 🤣😋 The meal order will actually fill two adults. I asked one of the restaurant staffs if I can take out the food and she gave me free storages and paper bag. 😌

Time for dessert! 😋 So, I headed to the World of Frozen to have an ice cream. While waiting for my dessert, I checked the HK DL app and it displayed that the waiting time for Frozen Ever After was just about 5 minutes only. When I peeped through it, yes, there was no line! 😱😱😱

Though I did not had the courage to ride the Frozen Ever After this time, I just roam around the place to take photos. Then, Princess Anna appeared! 😍😍😍

Before I head to Main Street, I also had some time at the Fairy Tale Forest and Mickey’s PhilharMagic attractions. I super enjoyed it too! 😍😍

To capped off the day, I returned to the Main Street to watch the Momentous. Last year, the Main Street was too crowded that we did not had a great spot to watch it. We ended up in the stairs nearby the City Hall. It should be a perfect place but the tall Christmas tree blocked the castle. 😰

This time, I believe, I had the perfect spot to watch the Momentous. I secured a good spot while waiting for about an hour. Before the Momentous, Disney Pixar had another 10-15 minutes show too.

But the most awaited, was the Momentous! 🤩🥰🥰🥰🤩 As it was nearing the time, people flocked nearby the castle so did I. In just few minutes, I had the chance to watch the full view of Momentous! I called my sister to let them see it too. 😍

Though it was my second time to see the Momentous, the feeling was still surreal. 😍Disney made me cry again! 😭😭😭😭 It was amazing! It was magical! 🤩🥰🥰🥰🤩

I was very lucky and blessed to experience Disneyland again! 😍😍😍 I thank God for this magical opportunity! 🙏🙇‍♀️🙏 It was a memory that I will always keep in my heart and mind. Disney’s magic will never die! Disney’s magic will always remain in me whatever age I will be. ✨🥰✨

After a day in Hong Kong Disneyland, I returned to my hotel.

The next day, I went to Macao to visit Coloane Village. 🥰

Farewell, Hong Kong!

Though I had a short stay in Hong Kong, it was indeed memorable. I was very fortunate to experience Hong Kong again in different way and perspective. ✨

Hong Kong was just more than a layover destination when I travelled to Mongolia and returning to Philippines, it was a place where magic happens! ✨🥰✨ Though I haven’t had the chance to travel to the main city, Tung Chung and Disneyland were more than enough this time. 👍😍👍

But don’t worry, Hong Kong! The possibility to return to you was very high as there are more to discover! Thank you again and see you!!! 💜💜💜
