Long before, I dreamt to travel to Hong Kong with my family. I felt that Hong Kong will be more fun to visit if I can be with family including my nephews. Last November, I was very fortunate to fulfil this dream – to travel to Hong Kong with my entire family. 😍🥰😍
The planning for this travel took me almost a year since the flight we booked was last December 2024. Travelling to Hong Kong with a senior citizen, a 6-month pregnant woman and two energetic kids was no joke. 😂😅 But then, these kinds of people were my family – my mom, sister-in-law and two adorable nephews, even the planning was challenging, I made sure that it will be worth-it for all of us. 🥰 However, given the challenges, we were able to create an itinerary that was not so hectic and perfect for a family of 7. 🥰

With my nephews aging from 4 to 6 years old, I decided to add theme parks in our itinerary. I was sure that they will enjoy it! My first nephew will also turn 7 years old so I knew that the theme parks will make him more delighted to experience it. 🥰
Ocean Park Hong Kong
Located in Wong Chuk Hang. Ocean Park Hong Kong first opened their doors in 1977. However, in some period it became unpopular due to the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland. With that, the park responded and pushed for expansion and more developments of attractions and rides. With the park’s effort, Ocean Park Hong Kong grew profit and increase its land to almost 92 hectares. The expansion made a significant impact not just to locals but to foreigners especially families.

Today, Ocean Park Hong Kong attracts more than 3 millions tourists per year as per TripAdvisor. Ocean Park Hong Kong ranked as Top 15 in the world and Top 2 in entire Asia as one of the most visited theme parks. With this ranking, the administration of Ocean Park Hong Kong made a significant effort to establish a world-wide reputation for all theme parks in the world.

For this travel, we added Ocean Park Hong Kong almost last minute in our itinerary. My 4-year-old nephew kept on watching videos in YouTube about animals. One day, he was able to watch videos about animals in Ocean Park Hong Kong. From then on, he kept on asking if we can go to OP HK. My nephew really loves animals so I gave in to his request. 😁

As an aunt, I always wanted to bring some joy to my nephews specially if its possible. With that, I ditched Macau in our itinerary and replaced it with Ocean Park Hong Kong. In perfect timing, I also read about the Klook Travel Fest that will have a buy 1, get 1 promo for OP HK tickets. With that, I grabbed the opportunity to have the promo tickets. 😁
How did we get to Ocean Park Hong Kong?
After our buffet breakfast in our hotel in Tung Chung, we took MTR to Hong Kong Station. From there, we walked to transfer to Central Station. Then, stopped at Admiralty. Lastly, we took the direct MTR to Ocean Park Station.

It took us an hour to reach Ocean Park Station from Tung Chung. I thought of taking a cab from Hong Kong Station to Ocean Park Station. However, we wanted to experience the train system of Hong Kong and to be familiar with the place. I also thought that it was a perfect exercise before our adventure in Ocean Park. 😁
Our Ocean Park Adventure
We arrived in the park by 11AM. Since we had a late breakfast and we are still full, we immediately queue in the entrance of the park. In the entrance gate, we just presented the QR codes we got from Klook and from the official website of the park. It took us less than 15 minutes to enter the park.

Pro Tip 💡: It will be better to visit the park during weekdays to experience shorter queues of attractions. However, please check the park website to ensure that it is not close for maintenance.
Upon entering the park, we searched for the signage to see the pandas. For some minutes, we were able to find it. 😍🐼😍
Pro Tip 💡: Mind that Ocean Park Hong Kong is waaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger than the Ocean Park in Manila. If it will be your first time, you might actually get lost. So, it will be better to download the map of Ocean Park Hong Kong to your phone.
The queue to see the panda was long! It took us more than 30 minutes to enter the Giant Panda Adventure. Good thing, the line moved fast so you will not notice the time. As we entered, we were delighted to see the cute fluffy pandas! My 4-year-old nephew was so ecstatic! In his excitement, he shouted so loud! 😂😂😂 The staff immediately asked us to be quiet.✌️🤫

All of the pandas were sleeping when we arrived inside. The crowd was instructed to be quiet and be calm inside to not let the pandas be disturbed. This was my second time to see pandas, the first was when I travelled to Taiwan. But seeing them again made me feel like a kid! 😍🐼😍 I really love pandas! I wish I can hug and play with them! 😍🐼😍
Seeing the pandas sleep, eat, climb, walk for some minutes was like seeing an old friend. They were too adorable! The kids enjoyed seeing the pandas too! A red panda was also in the other side, sleeping like a baby. 😍

There was this like a photo booth inside the sanctuary to take photos. After 30 minutes, we headed outside.
Near panda sanctuary is the Panda Café. We had our late lunch there and relaxed our feet. We ordered some delicious meals inside the restaurant. 😋😋😋
Pro Tip 💡 Food servings are good for two when we ordered inside the Panda Café. We were too full! If you do not have big appetite, you can share the meal. Utensils are free to use inside the café. We also brought zip locks in case we have left-over food. Though the café staffs were very generous to have our left-over food packed in their own reusable bowls. It is ok to bring food and drinks inside Ocean Park Hong Kong. There are many tables and seats that you can use inside for free.

After our lunch, we walked to the Old Hong Kong Street, inside it was the Merry-Go-Round. This time, there was no queue so my nephews and sister were able to ride immediately the Merry-Go-Round. It was quick ride though. 😀

Near the Merry-Go-Round was the cable car station. To reach The Summit or the other side of Ocean Park Hong Kong, you may opt to ride cable car or the Ocean Park Express train. For us, we decided to ride the cable car first.

Pro Tip 💡 Since we wanted to avoid strong winds during the afternoon, we opted to ride the cable car first. It was a bit gloomy that day so we thought it might rain and the wind will be stronger. If that happened, the cable car ride might be cancelled. Good thing, the weather cooperated and it did not rain. If you want to ride the cable car with steady temperature, morning or noon is better.

Though the cable car queue was a bit long, it only took us less than 30 minutes for our turn. Each car can accommodate up to 6 passengers inside. We took 2 cars so it will not be too crowded inside. When the cable car started to move, my heart started to beat more. 😰 I am actually afraid of heights. Though this is also my second time to ride a cable car, the cable car inside Ocean Park Hong Kong is much smaller than the one I rode in Maokong Gondola when I was in Taiwan.

As the cable car moved higher, I felt that it became steeper! 😰😰😰 I felt that my feet were sweating. The cable car rope was really high and we were like climbing a mountain. My mother held the steel bar tighter while my nephew was enjoying it. The view above though was magnificent! 😍

The cable car ride took us about 15 minutes. It was like 15 minutes of sweat in my feet that made me more frightened. 😅😅😅 However, as my family was with me, I felt more comfortable. The cable car was like moving beneath an island. Indeed, Ocean Park Hong Kong was huge! 😱😱😱

As we arrived in The Summit or the other side of Ocean Park Hong Kong, we walked to see the sharks and dolphins. However, as we checked, the Dolphin Explorations was closed due to maintenance. My brother and sister together with the kids, pushed thru to see the sharks instead.
Since my mother was getting tired, we decided to stopped and just sit. We just waited for them to return. While waiting, I tried to walk around the area. I found the Sea Jelly Spectacular! Since there was no queue and I was interested to see the jellyfish, I entered the venue. 😍

Inside, I saw colorful jellyfishes illuminated with different color of lights. It was refreshing to see sea animal while inside Ocean Park Hong Kong. Though the park attractions were not purely about sea animals, it comprises of different species of animals that make it more fascinating fo kids and kid-at-heart like me. 😍😍😍
After the Sea Jelly Spectacular, I returned to my mother and rest for a while. As my brother, sister and the kids were done to see the sharks, we headed back to the center of The Summit area as we will walk to the other side to see the Polar Adventure. My mother, brother and his pregnant wife decided to stay. As for me and my sister together with the kids, we walked more to see the penguins! 😁

While walking, we saw the famous Hair Raiser. This is the Ocean Park Hong Kong version of rollercoaster. Since, we do not have the guts to ride this attraction, we just took a picture and headed straight to the Polar Adventure. 🥶
Inside the Polar Adventure, we saw the Arctic Blast and experienced the South Pole Spectacular and North Pole Encounter. We were so lucky that there was no queue to enter the attractions. We enjoyed to see penguins, sea lions and sea cows. It was really amazing to see these kinds of animals. 😍😍😍
The North Pole Encounter has this big aquarium dome like in Manila Ocean Park. Yet, their dome is bigger and more interesting. My nephews truly enjoyed these attractions.

Pro Tip 💡 It can be very cold inside the South Pole Spectacular and North Pole Encounter, so bring your jackets! 🥶

After these attractions, my nephews told us that they were hungry. So, we grabbed a snack before returning to my mother. We were able to see one of OP HK mascot. And since she was wearing purple, my favorite color, I grabbed the chance to take a photo with her. 💜
When we returned to the center of The Summit, we took the escalator and just few seconds, we were there in front of the Ocean Park Express train. We just rested for some minutes and let the kids tell stories of the Polar Adventures. After that, we headed to the train station to ride the Ocean Park Express.

We waited for some minutes to ride the train and since were in the front, we were able to seat inside the train. As the train started to move, the TVs above showed different images that made us feel like we were in a the bottom of the sea. It was fun! 😍😍😍

In less than 5 minutes, we reached the WaterFront area or almost the entrance part. As we walked outside, we saw the Grand Aquarium. It was actually one of the main attractions inside the Ocean Park Hong Kong. Though we were all tired, we did not hesitated to hit our last attraction. We just left our mother, brother and his wife in a restaurant where they can seat comfortably.

Luckily, there was no queue again to see the Grand Aquarium. We immediately headed inside. The entire area was big! It was indeed a grand aquarium of different sea animals including corals and other sea plants. My nephews were not getting tired to see different sea creatures. 😅

We were amazed by the milk fishes and starfishes inside. We were able to see “Nemo” and “Dory” including “Squidward”, “Mr.Krabs”and “Patrick the Star”! It was like exploring the Bikini Bottom in real life! 😍🥰😍 We also liked the big stingrays! Our last attraction inside the Ocean Park Hong Kong was very memorable! 😍🥰😍

After the Grand Aquarium, we headed to the exit and took some pictures as our last memory in Ocean Park Hong Kong. It was indeed a wonderful experience not just for me but for the kids. They truly enjoyed their first Ocean Park Hong Kong experience. 😍🥰😍
Xièxiè OP HK!
We had an amazing time in Ocean Park Hong Kong. It was indeed incomparable with our experience in Manila Ocean Park. Though our feet were tired, our hearts were full since the kids totally enjoyed the park. 😍🥰😍

The last minute decision to add it in our itinerary was worth it! The kids enjoyed all the animals and the attractions inside OP HK. One of my take too was to increase the awareness of the kids on how to take care nature including animals. So, I think they somehow understood the same lesson we had. 😇

We were truly fortunate and blessed to have a full day in OP HK. If given another chance, we will come back to enjoy other attractions too. I hope that day sealed a core memory to the kids as they grow up. 😍😍😍

To return to our hotel, we rode the same MTR routes.
Up next, we visited another theme park – Hong Kong Disneyland! To know about our adventure and other tips, please follow my blog! 💜✨💜
Xièxiè! 💜✨💜
